Unfortunately, the current political environment has fueled intolerance, ignorance and racism throughout our communities and the nation. Although racism still permeates our society, it is different. Seldomly do we see overt and direct racism like we saw during the Civil Rights movement, such as vocalizing racial epithets\u2019 and acting upon racist ideology.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today we see a more subtle racism, which on its face you can\u2019t see it. However, upon taking a deeper look, you can discover a racist environment or actions. We prominently see racism playout in the workplace. What is less known, yet still prevalent, is racial discrimination against a customer and\/or consumer in the marketplace. This is known as consumer discrimination.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We see consumer discrimination when employees of a business or corporation discriminate against a customer\/consumer because of their race, skin color or national origin. The employees act in discriminatory manner by refusing to offer a service or they provide a service in a hostile manner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here are two (2) examples of situations that we see the manifestation of consumer discrimination:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">A customergoes to a service business for example a restaurant, auto shop or supermarketand they are refused or denied service for unknown or pretextual reasons despite the business offering the same service to people who are white.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">A customer enters into a \u201cconsumer contract\u201d, for example buying an airline ticket, but the conduct in which the airline, business or corporation provides the service is different and racially motivated because other similarly situated people are receiving a better service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;70px&#8221; hide_on_mobile=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The main Federal statute for consumer discrimination is:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>42 U.S. Code \u00a7\u202f1981.Equal rights under the law<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>(a)Statement of equal rights<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/42\/1981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">persons<\/a> within the jurisdiction of the United<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/42\/1981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> States <\/a>shall have the same right in every<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/42\/1981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> State <\/a>and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/42\/1981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Territory <\/a>to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/42\/1981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">make and enforce contracts<\/a>, to sue, be parties, give evidence, and to the full and equal benefit of all laws and proceedings for the security of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/42\/1981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> persons <\/a>and property as is enjoyed by white citizens, and shall be subject to like punishment, pains, penalties,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/42\/1981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> taxes,<\/a> licenses, and exactions of every kind, and to no other.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>(b)\u201cMake and enforce contracts\u201d defined<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For purposes of this section, the term \u201cmake and enforce contracts\u201d includes the making, performance, modification, and termination of contracts, and the enjoyment of all benefits, privileges, terms, and conditions of the contractual relationship.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>(c)Protection against impairment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The rights protected by this section are protected against impairment by nongovernmental discrimination and impairment under color of State law.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"spphone_big\"><a href=\"tel:18003467752\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 36pt;\">1 800 346 7752<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;40px&#8221; hide_on_mobile=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_column_text]<strong><em>How much does it cost to hire the firm to fight for your civil rights?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You do not pay any upfront money to retain the firm.
